President Akufo-Addo bent on seeking recognition for his uncle – Inusah Fuseini

The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Hon. Inusah Fuseini is the latest political figure to kick against the proposed August 4 Founders Day.

Reacting to the proposed legislation from the seat of government, Hon. Inusah Fuseini indicated that the president is bent on making his uncle, Dr. J.B. Danquah an iconic figure in the independence struggle.

“The President is finding ways to celebrate his uncle,”. He told an Accra based NEAT FM in an interview.

He described the move from president Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as unnecessary and over-ambitious to proposed a legislation to parliament in connection with making August 4 a public holiday.

A statement released and signed by the head of communication at the Flagstaff house, Mr. Eugene Arhin stated that Government has proposed a legislation to Parliament to designate 4th August as Founders Day, and 21st September as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.

‘’The President has, therefore, decided to propose legislation to Parliament to designate 4th August as FOUNDERS DAY, and 21st September as KWAME NKRUMAH MEMORIAL DAY, both of which will be observed as public holidays. In the meantime, the President has issued an Executive Instrument to commemorate this year’s celebration of KWAME NKRUMAH MEMORIAL DAY as a public holiday.’’ The statement stated.

However the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central holds the view that some denominations of Ghana’s currency have the images of the Big Six, considered to be part of the Founders’, hence the designation of a day for their celebration is meaningless.
