Abetifi (E/R), Nov. 19, GNA – The Okwahu Campus of the Presbyterian University College (PUC) has admitted 150 students to study Business Administration and Information Communication Technology (ICT) this academic year.
The Principal of the College, Professor Kofi Sraku-Lartey, announced this at its 4th matriculation at Abetifi on Saturday. He said the student population is made up of 330 males and 170 females and that the college was offering compulsory courses in Entrepreneurial Skills, French and English Language and that the objective is that graduates from the school should be able to set up their own businesses rather than waiting to be employed.
Prof Sraku-Lartey said since the country’s future depends on its ability to continuously replace, re-generate and replenish its skilled workforce, the universities should produce leaders who could learn from the present circumstances and be prepare to meet future challenges. He said the University was expanding its internet facilities to increase efficiency and access in order to cope with the increasing student population.
He advised the students to make effective use of the huge investment being made by their parents and the church which subsidizes 50 percent of their fees and concentrate on their studies. The Deputy Minister for Trade, Industry and President Special Initiative, Mr Kwadwo Afram Asiedu, said the stabilization of the cedi against major currencies in the past four years and the growth of the national reserve were positive indication that the government was committed to promoting a broad-based and balanced development. The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ms Susana Mensah, commended the PUC for citing one of its campuses at a semi-rural community and urged the management and lecturers to come out with research findings which would improve the living condition of people in the area. She appealed to Kwahu citizens noted for their entrepreneurship to invest in the special needs of the university such as students’ hostels and staff accommodation.
The Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng, II, advised the students to appreciate the sacrifice being made by their parents and the Church towards their education and concentrate on their studies to come out successfully and contribute towards the nations’ development. 19 Nov. 06
