Accra, 15 July, GNA- The National Ministers’ Spouses Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is to set up a fund to support spouses of ministers who find themselves in need during the transfer or death of the minister.
Mrs. Rebecca Appiah, National President of the conference said the Presbyterian Church of Ghana till date had no such fund available to help spouses of ministers who find themselves in financial constraints during the transfer or death of their husbands or wife.
She said attempts were made earlier to get such help available to ministers’ spouses after their death but was to no avail. She however expressed optimism that, this time round, they were going to succeed as the conference had begun contributing to the fund. Mrs. Appiah was speaking at the special thanksgiving service of the Conference’s 30th anniversary at the Victory Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana under the theme; ‘You have come to mount Zion” on Sunday in Accra.
She noted that there were many spouses of ministers who needed the help of the church after the death of their husbands but could not be helped because of lack of funds. She said the fund would be used to help in the education and up-bring of children of ministers who devoted their life to the service of God. Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Manso, President of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in his sermon said as Christians it was their call to extend a helping hand to the poor and needy in society.
Rev Frimpong-Manso said the church should be able to bring comfort, hope and peace to the distressed to fulfill the mission of Christ. “The church of Christ should be an arena of peace, hope and love for the people,” he added.
He however expressed concern about “the lack of zeal among present day Christians to pursue the holiness and Godliness that Jesus asked them to live but rather go after riches.”
He said the people’s deviation from God’s way and word has resulted in the number of social vices being experienced because parents had failed to bring up their children in the Lord’s way. “If Ghana can be the gateway to Africa then it should be able to demonstrate holiness through good governance and the works of parliamentarians, Council of States and all citizens,” he said. 15 JULY 07
