Presbyterian Church to open nursing training school

Dormaa (B/A), Oct. 22, GNA – The Presbyterian Church of Ghana is to open a community health nursing training school at Dormaa-Ahenkro to train community health nurses for its health facilities. The school, which takes off in September 2009, will use the premises of the Dormaa Presbyterian Girls Vocational Institute which has been under-utilized due to low patronage.

Rev Richard Robert Brobbey, Brong-Ahafo Presbytery chairperson and chairman of Brong-Ahafo Presbytery Health Service’s Board of Directors, said this at Dormaa-Ahenkro when he addressed the passing out parade for 26 security personnel recruited to handle security in the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital.

The personnel had undergone orientation at the hands of communication and health professionals whilst the Dormaa municipal command of the Ghana Police Service provided them with drill. Rev. Brobbey said the decision to establish the community health training school at Dormaa-Ahenkro was informed by the growing need for health personnel particularly nurses for the Presbyterian health facilities in the region.

He called on management of the hospital, the church’s local congregations and the Dormaa Traditional Council to collectively prepare the grounds for the school’s smooth take-off next year. Rev. Brobbey lauded the decision of the Dormaa Hospital to beef up and train security personnel for the hospital and that this would be recommended to other Presbyterian hospitals.
