Presbyterian Church Moderator

Tema, June 9, GNA – Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church of Ghana has called on Ministers of the Gospel to persevere in guiding the flock entrusted in their care by making the love and mercy of God a reality to them. He noted that the church today was guilty of not making the love and mercy of God a reality to them due to lack of concern for real physical and spiritual needs of its members especially the poor and needy.

“We lack compassion for the people who are languishing in crime, oppression, immorality and poverty. The fact of the matter is that both ministers and members of most of our churches are content with their own spiritual nourishment,” he said at the ordination of 32 Ministers of the Church on Sunday in Tema.

The 28 men and four women Ministers from five Presbyteries of the Church had successfully served a two-year probationary term as recognised and accepted by the General Assembly Council of the Church. Rt-Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso called for a renewed spirit in church evangelism, fresh enthusiasm to preaching and teaching as the foundation and existence of every Christian, “We are selfish, let us be selfless in our service to God and humanity.”

He noted that the early missionaries who brought the Gospel were people filled with love and mercy and sacrificed their lives for men, “So you must also go with the love of God in your hearts to sacrifice your lives for the poor, immoral, the weak and oppressed in society.” Rt-Rev. Dr Frimpong-Manso reminded the Ministers of the need to show mercy and love in their service to the people, “I do not expect you to go out there and behave like the faithless, selfish disciples having regards to the fact that you are being ordained to go and only preach Jesus Christ.”

“God needs a church which is responsive to the real needs of the people in the world and this also depends on our obedience to His call. God needs Ministers and Christians who would abandon earthly things and go to redeem society for Jesus Christ,” he said. Rev. Isaac Brown, a newly ordained Minister on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to the church, families and friends who made their training possible.
