Subi (E/R), Aug. 15, – Presbyterian schools in Subin, near Kade, have cultivated about 10 acres of oil palm, citrus and teak farms. Twenty-five per cent of the proceeds of the farms will go to the teachers to motivate them while the rest will be used to improve facilities in the schools. Mr A.K. Yeboah, chairman of the Schools’ Management Committee (SMC) said at an “open day” that 20 acres of land was released to them by the Subin Traditional Council for the project. He said the SMC took the decision to give the incentive to the teachers because many of them are reluctant to serve in the rural areas. A member of the Council of State, Mrs Mercy Owusu-Nimoh, stressed the importance of discipline in schools, stressing that without this it would be difficult to improve educational standards. Mrs Owusu-Nimoh asked parents and guardians to be prepared to invest in the education of their children. ”It is unfortunate that many parents would rather prefer to spend money on funerals to the detriment of their children’s education.”
