Koforidua, Aug, 17, GNA – Rev Dr Yaw Frimpong Manso, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has condemned the violence and acrimony that characterized the limited voters’ registration exercise.
He said 16 years after uninterrupted democratic dispensation, the nation should not experience such act and called on all the political parties contesting this year’s general election to be circumspect in their activities in order not to disturb the peace the nation is enjoying.
Addressing the 26th Annual Delegates Conference of the Men’s Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Koforidua on Saturday, Rev Dr Frimpong Manso said Ghana had chalked some democratic success as compared to other African countries and nothing should be done to stain those achievements.
He urged the Electoral Commission to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner and that it was time Ghanaians devoted much time to prayers for the country towards successful election and economic prosperity.
The Moderator urged Ghanaians to vote for God fearing and visionary leaders who can move the country into the middle income level status and cautioned against ethnocentrism saying “we should see ourselves as one people with a common destiny.”
Mr Kwadwo Afram-Asiedu, Eastern Regional Minster, commended the Presbyterian Church on its contribution to socio-economic development of Ghana.
He expressed worry at the high rate of social vices such as armed robbery, drug trafficking and indiscipline in the country and said members of the fellowship could not escape blame because some men refuse their basic responsibilities which result in creating room for their children to become wayward.
He said this nation needed to move forward and therefore urged Ghanaians to condemn and reject any politician who preaches violence ahead of the election.
