The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has accepted the apology rendered by President John Mahama to the Moderator of the Church, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Martey, an official of the church has said.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Church, Emmanuel Osei, labeled the president’s stance as a “sign of exemplary leadership”, and therefore urged the citizenry to emulate.
“The president’s apology is a sign of exemplary leadership, which is worthy of emulation by all. I can assure the public that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has accepted the apology in good faith”, Mr. Osei humbly asserted.
President Mahama called for the truce when addressing chiefs and elders at the Odwira Festival of the Akuapem traditional area.
The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia and some leading elements of the party has engaged in war of words with the PRO of the church after it had urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to halt plans of creating 45 new constituencies ahead of the December elections.
The call by the church attracted harsh criticisms from the NDC chief scribe and some leading figures of the party, and accused the church of being in bed with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
