Preparations are underway to mark Founder’s Day at Nkroful

Preparations are underway at Nkroful, birthplace of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the country’s first President, as the nation marks his 103rd birthday on Friday, September 21.

The week-long event commenced with a candle light procession of all second cycle schools in the three districts of Nzema land through the principal streets of Nkroful.

An Inter-Senior High Schools soccer competition dubbed: “Osagyefo Cup 2012”, which started on Tuesday, is underway between all the 8 secondary schools in the 3 districts.

The tournament is on the theme: “Deepening Our Democracy in Peace and Unity”.

It is being sponsored by Adamus Resources Limited, a mining company in Ellembelle, the office of the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Jesus Opens Doors, a mining company, Ghana Gas Company, Frankfield Holdings Company Ltd. and Hallman Petroleum among others.

Event Manager, Mr. Stephen Minlah Adenyina told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the climax of the event would be graced by Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Friday, with a wreath laying ceremony amidst cultural display at the birth and original burial place of Dr. Nkrumah.

Also on the agenda is a live entertainment performance featuring very renowned Ghanaian artists on Saturday.

Founder’s Day was declared by the late Atta Mills-led administration on September 21 every year in memory of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
