PPP Ready to Contest and Win Wulensi by-elections.

We in the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) are ready to contest and win the Wulensi constituency by-elections slated for July 31, 2012 in the Northern region of Ghana.

To that end, we are pleased to confirm that our Parliamentary Candidate Hon. Issa Damba, has filed his nomination with the Electoral Commission (EC), to contest for the seat, following the launch of the party’s campaign in the constituency on Tuesday, by Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Flag bearer of the PPP.

We also want to take this opportunity to declare our unflinching support for the EC and the modalities it has put in place to undertake the by-elections. We want to encourage the EC to go ahead and use the old constituency register in view of the fact that the new biometric register will have to undergo cleaning, exhibition and publication to meet the requirements of the current Constitutional Instrument (CI).

It is our considered opinion that until the new biometric register is taken through due process to become fully operational as prescribed by the new CI, the “old register” remains the only valid voters register for election in the country and the PPP has no problem whatsoever with the EC going ahead to use it for the by-elections in the Wulensi and Afigya Kwabre constituencies.
