PPP Parliamentary candidate for Effia-Kwesimintsim opposes registration of prisoners

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Effia-Kwesimintsim Constituency, Mr. Maxwell Okyere Ahenkorah, has opposed the registration of prisoners in the biometric voter registration.

This is contained in a press statement issued in Takoradi on Tuesday and copied to the GNA in Takoradi.

The statement said that, once a person is imprisoned, all his inalienable rights are taken away from him and therefore cannot make his own decision and let alone vote in a general elections.

It said if the prisoners were allowed to vote in this year’s election, some political parties would have a reason not to concede defeat since they could argue on the premise that, someone had rigged the elections in the prisons.

The prisons are restricted security installation and the incumbent government could manipulate and rig the results of the elections, it said.

It therefore charged all Ghanaians to rise against the registration of prisoners to vote in the upcoming elections in December.**
