PPP gov’t will deport Chinese ‘galamseyers’ – Nduom

The flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has promised to deport all Chinese nationals engaged in illegal mining activities in the country if he is voted for in the December polls.

There’s been increasing debate about the activities of illegal miners who have been accused of destroying aquatic life, polluting rivers and streams, and destroying forest reserves.

According to Dr Nduom, government lacks the political will in fighting the menace which has caused damage to the environment.

“I will not promise you one district one factory. Small-scale mining by law is reserved for Ghanaians but the Chinese have disobeyed the law and are involved in galamsey. Do we not have a president in this country? If the PPP is given the mandate to govern, I, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, will ensure that Chinese who disobey the law will be deported,” he stated.

Dr Nduom said these while addressing a teeming crowd in the Ejisu-Juaben municipality as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region on Thursday September 22.
