The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has welcomed the news of a possible implementation of the Representation of the People’s Amendment Law (ROPAL) to give Ghanaians the opportunity to exercise their franchise in local elections.
If implemented, Ghanaians living abroad will get the chance to vote during national polls.
“There are many countries in West Africa and around the world that do allow their citizens overseas to vote. I cannot understand why in Ghana we do not allow that to happen,” he said in an interaction with the Ghanaian community in Lome, Togo, as part of his two-day working visit.
Several political parties and analysts have welcomed the news and the latest to commend government is the Chairman of the Progressive People Party (PPP), Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond.
In an interview with Emefa Apawu on Class FM’s 505 news programme on Friday May 5, Mr Hammond said: “We are elated that it is being considered so that Ghanaians outside the country can vote as the law says they should.
“I’m happy President Nana Akufo-Addo has seen it fit for the Electoral Commission to implement it.”
