Kumasi, Nov 2, GNA – The Youth Action Movement (YAM) of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) in collaboration with the Environmental Health and Management Department of the Asokwa Sub-Metro in the Kumasi metropolis, has organised a one-day durbar on sanitation to sensitise pupils of basic schools at Oforikrom on how to keep the environment clean.
The durbar, which formed part of activities organised by YAM to educate the youth, especially students on effective ways of disposing waste, brought together about 200 pupils.
Dr Frances Owusu Daaku, National President of PPAG, in a speech read for him, regretted that in spite of efforts being made by metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, communities and individuals to rid the country of filth, little progress had been made. She advocated the enactment of stiffer laws to deal with people who would dump refuse indiscriminately adding “persuasion has failed and as a result, force remains the only option left to be applied”.
Mr Lawrence Osei-Bonsu, Head of Environmental Health and Management Department at the Asokwa Sub-Metro, commended YAM for initiating moves to ensure that the environment was kept clean.
