PPAG initiates 8.5 billion cedis SHR project

Sunyani, (B/A) April 29, GNA- Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), has initiated an 8.5 billion cedis project that aims at increasing access to friendly Sexual Health Reproductive (SHR) services among the youth.

The project dubbed “Big Lottery Fund Project”, which would span five years, would improve the economic potential of the youth in the beneficiary communities of Techiman and Sunyani in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Mr Francis Yankey, Programmes Director of PPAG, announced this on Thursday at a day’s workshop in Sunyani organised by the Association to introduce the stakeholders to the project.

He said: “SHR status of the vulnerable is at stake since these people are always raped, defiled and sexually harassed leading to unwanted pregnancies, as well as sexually transmitted diseases”.

Mr Yankey announced plans by the PPAG to give credit facilities to the youth in the project areas to enable them to expand their businesses. Mr Akwasi Boakye, Project Coordinator said there was the need for community, opinion and religious leaders to sensitise the SHR needs of the youth and generate social acceptance and support for these needs.

For the smooth operation of the project, he said the Association would establish management committees and youth advisory boards in the five localities where the project would be located.
