Power theft cases have seen a nosedive since the Electricity Company of Ghana began an aggressive prosecution of culprits.
The head of legal at ECG, Paul Assibey Abariga, who disclosed this to the media in Accra believes awareness has been created with the arrest and prosecution of persons who illegally tamper with ECG meters.
Two persons, Hayford Mortey and Mumuni Isaka, were recently arrested for illegally using an ECG MasterCard to sell power.
They were arrested after some officials of the Accra West District Office of the ECG, during a field investigation duty, found that the credit on the meters of some customers were abnormal.
The court presided by Justice Afi Agbanu fined them GHC 1,200 or in default serve one year in prison with hard labour. They were also ordered to pay GHC 2,000 as compensation to the ECG.
The ECG since last year has embarked on an aggressive campaign to clampdown on power theft cases across the country.
