Power Plant to Be Operational This Month

The President, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor last week toured the Osagyefo Power Plant Barge belonging to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) in Sekondi in the Western Region.

Accompanied by the Managing Director of the GNPC, Mr. Moses Oduro Boateng, he was conducted round by Mr. Ben Dagadu, co-ordinator of the power plant barge.

Mr. Boateng said gas is the primary fuel for the barge, which has a water treatment plant, diesel tanks and forwarding pumps for emergency power.

The barge would move from Sekondi to its designed location at Effasu Mangyea also in the Western Region by Christmas.

Mr. Boateng said the power plant is environmentally friendly and should give people no cause for alarm as it guarantees a nitrogen oxide emission of only 15ppm and a noise level of 55db at 100m away from the plant. He said the background noise level of the sea is far higher than the guaranteed plant noise.

The power plant installed was financed by the Japanese Bank for International Co-operation (JBLC), engineered and built by Ansaldo Energia, supervised by EPDC of Japan and executed by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
