Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Isaac Kirk Koffi says the crises in Ghana’s power sector are just “short-term” and “temporary” and soon enough power will be generated to end the crises once and for all.
Engineer Koffi assured that several structures have been put in place to ensure that reliable power is produced for Ghanaians including those in the rural areas.
Mr. Koffi gave this assurance on Saturday, June 7 when he took the hot seat on TV3’s Hot Issues.
He said what is currently hampering the power sector is the breakdown of three major generating plants including Takoradi’s TICO and not solely on inadequate gas supply as widely held in some quarters of the country.
“The crisis we find ourselves in is temporary,” Ing. Koffi said.
He observed that most of the outages that occur are “planned” in order to ensure adequate reserve margins.
He said soon power from renewable sources, solar and hydro will be brought on board to save the situation.
Ghana’s power crisis began in 2012 after a burst to the West African Gas Pipeline. Since then, there have been incessant power cuts.
There is currently a load-shedding timetable in place to regulate the supply of power.
Mr. Koffi assured all Ghanaians that steady power will be supplied during the world cup.
He, however, cautioned consumers to develop an attitude to conserve energy.
