Poverty, unemployment are major causes of homosexuality – Rev. Bugri

Tamale, Oct. 8, GNA – Poverty and unemployment among the youth contribute largely to the cause of homosexuality in society, Reverend Dr. Bugri Nagbo, Northern Regional Chairman of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has observed.

He said this was because people who engage in the act were usually between an older-richer person and a poor young person.

He said the actors (homosexuals) give their victims fat envelopes of money, dollars and assorted gifts to entice them into the act and advised the youths to beware.

Rev. Dr. Nagbo was addressing some youth groups, political parties, chiefs in Tamale on Friday during a peace building seminar organized by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

It was on the theme: “Working towards a sustainable peace in Northern Ghana – the role of the Youth” and was supported by the Association of Churches and Missions in South-Western Germany.

Dr. Nagbo said because of hunger, the youths were very vulnerable to all kinds of social vices.

He urged the youth to refrain from conflicts, especially as the country’s draws closer to 2012 elections, adding that there could not be development in an atmosphere of conflict.

Rev. Dr. Solomon Sule-Saa, National Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations Department of the Presbyterian Church, said religion was supposed to bring peace and not conflict.

He noted that the Northern parts of the country had often been described as the conflict zone, adding that such views were misconceptions and must be disabused.

Alhaji Dr. Hussein Zakari, an Islamic Scholar, who chaired the function, underscored the need for all political parties, religious and youth groups to put heads together to nurture a common voice on peace.
