POTAG threatens strike

The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana has threatened a strike if its Book and Research Allowance are not reinstated.

According to POTAG, government’s decision to scrap the book research allowance for lectures at the tertiary level is borne out of confusion.

Government has abolished the allowance and replaced it with the National Research Fund.

But speaking to XYZ News, Chairman of POTAG branch in Kumasi, Edmund Oppong Peprah said government’s action is a breach of contract.

“POTAG is prepared legally, physically, psychologically and even spiritually to resist government or any of its agencies that attempt to make any of its members worse off,” Mr. Oppong Peprah said.

POTAG has also urged the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students to pressurize government to rescind its decision to avert any disruption in the academic calendar.
