Post French teachers to primary schools -GES told

Ejisu (Ash), Oct. 4, GNA – An appeal has gone to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to make the teaching of French in the Primary School a priority to help unearth aptitudes and generate interest at the Junior/ Senior High Levels. Mr Andrew Amoh Koranteng, Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Ejisu M/A Experimental Junior High School, made the appeal at a general meeting held on Friday to discuss the school’s performance in the current BECE. The appeal was necessitated by the generally poor performance of the school’s candidates in French in this year’s examination. Mr Koranteng attributed the situation to the late introduction of the rudiments of the subject, which makes students become repulsive to it, perceiving the language as difficult. He maintained that, the need for the study of French in the primary level was more urgent now than any other time in the face of globalization, and also for the fact that Ghana geographically, was surrounded by Franco-phone countries. He expressed the hope that the performance of the Junior High Students would improved, if they started learning the subject from primary four. Mr P.H.K Amuah, Managing Director of YOTHAM Enterprise based at Fumesua, urged parents to invest in their wards’ education, and advised them to desist from attacking teachers. Mrs Gladys Asante Addih, Headmistress of the school, appealed to parents to cultivate the habit of visiting their wards at school to acquaint themselves with how their wards were performing. She appealed to parents to supervise the movements of their wards at home to study hard.
