Population officer proposes Youth in Population model

Mr Frank Ofosu-Asante, Western Regional Population Officer, on Saturday proposed the creation of a “Youth in Population” model to assist to disseminate information on population issues.

He made the proposal at a Youth Dialogue with stakeholders organised by the National Youth Authority in Takoradi.

The dialogue was on the theme: “Africa’s Youth Population: Opportunity or Threat, Ghana in perspective.”

Mr Ofosu-Asante said the National Population Council has the capacity to roll out the programme.

He said under the model, the youth would be trained in population management and set out to disseminate the information at the local level.

Mr Ofosu-Asante said the model could assist to reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted infections including HIV and AIDS and fertility.

He said the programme would also create employment for the youth who are future leaders of the country.
