Poor state of our country gives me nightmares – Lucy Ennin

One of the first 10 female Member of Parliament(MPs) in the Convention People’s Party(CPP) era,Lucy Ennin says the country is strayed from the legacies of the forefathers because of lack of patriotism in current Ghanaian leaders.

“I have nightmares today because almost all aspects of our national life are not working right. We tend to destroy the foundation, architect and vision of our past leaders [Nkrumah’s legacy], ” Lucy Ennin, whose party won Ghana’s independence in 1957 said.

She berated post Nkrumah regimes of running down State entreprises and killing industries in the country which she noted is the bane of Ghana’s economic frustrations.

“Through the defunct State Farms we thought Malaysia nursing of Oil Palms in our country, and they have used to to develop their countries and Ghana is still struggling with hunger,” she bemoaned.

According to her, instead of the managers of the economy to concentrate on nurturing a vision to build a strong economy for the West African nation-Ghana, “we prefer trading in dumping goods brought from the Western world”.

“I read newspapers every day and I get sad with the state of our nation. All we know best is building stores and trading in inferior goods. What have we produced as a nation and we’re selling? Lucy queried in an interview with host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Thursday.

The comments by the veteran politician comes after Ghana marked the 107th birthday of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana for his contribution towards the liberation and growth of the country.

The day, christened Founder’s Day and declared a public holiday is mostly earmarked with activities including lectures and symposiums to commemorate the First Ghanaian leader .
