Polytechnics are not inferior to the Universities-Ford.

Ho, July 17, GNA – Mr Henry Kamel Ford, Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem, has described as wrong the perception that the Polytechnics were second-rate tertiary institutions meant for those who could not make it to the universities.

He said on the contrary, Polytechnics were specially designed to provide training in applied science and technology that are needed to propel the country’s development.

Mr Ford, himself a Polytechnic product, was speaking on the topic ‘contributions of Polytechnics to human resource development’ at this year’s launch of the Ho Polytechnic Students Representative Council (SRC) and Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) week on Monday.

The launch was on the theme: “Ghana at 50: Contributions of the Polytechnics”.

Mr Ford said the Polytechnics were also to encourage study in technical subjects at the tertiary level and to provide opportunity for development, research and publication of findings.

The MP who is a deputy Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Communication and also member of the select Committee on Trade and Industry, said graduates of Polytechnics were now contributing their quota to the manpower development of the country. He urged Polytechnic graduates to assert themselves in whichever position they found themselves and not to feel inferior to university graduates.
