Polytechnic students appeals for extension of academic calendar

Tamale, Nov. 24, GNA – The Association of Secretarialship and Management Students of Ghana (ASHSMAS), a group of polytechnic students, on Wednesday appealed to their teachers and the government to extend the academic calendar.

They complained that the academic calendar of the polytechnics had been virtually destroyed during the one-month strike action by the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG). The ASHSMAS made the appeal in a statement signed by Mr. Mohammed Mubarak, the National President of AHSMAS.

The students commended POTAG for the attention they gave to the court’s ruling by suspending their strike and returning to the classroom. “Considering the time students spent at home during the strike, it would be suicidal if our scheduled days for this semester are not extended for us to finish our syllabus”, the statement said. It said students had barely a month to start examinations and some especially final years were complaining about the little time left to prepare for the exams.

They said they were ready to comply with any possible arrangements by POTAG to help solve the situation. 24 Nov. 10
