Poly students to meet over the MOU between MEYS and GNUPS

Ho, Aug 27, GNA – Regional forums would be organised for Polytechnic Students to discuss matters arising out the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) reached last Tuesday on the students’ boycott of lectures.

Mr Frank Kwansah, President of GNUPS, speaking in an interview with the GNA on Wednesday said, “It is the students body, which takes the decisions, we as leaders only implement them”. He was reacting to a report that the students were ready to end their boycott of lectures.

“We would not allow any person or institution to cajole us, we shall resist that,” he said.

Mr Kwansah said that under the MOU the Ministry of Education was to formally notify the Public Service Commission (PSC) to grant Senior Officer status to the Higher National Diploma holders.

This, PSC would then have to communicate its decision to Professor Asabre’s Standing Committee on the Placement of HND Diploma holders.

Polytechnic students have been boycotting lecturers for the past three months, to back their demand for better placement on the job market.
