Poly Students to continue with strike

Kumasi, July 16, GNA- Polytechnic students have vowed to continue with their sit-down strike until the government and all stakeholders placed the polytechnic graduates on the Ghana Universal Salary Structure (GUSS).

They said their action would compel the government to solve the impasse once and for all.

These were contained in a press statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Kumasi Polytechnic and signed by Mr Frederick Prempeh-Boateng and Mr Nantogma Salifu Dokurugu, President and Secretary respectively.

The statement noted with delight progress made so far by the government to address the issue, citing recent statement by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports after a meeting with the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) and other stakeholders on 22nd June 2004 in Accra.

The statement said a document signed by Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, the sector Minister recommended among other things that Higher National Diploma (HND) holders should be classified and placed within the ranks of Senior Officers in all public organisations.

The statement said the students were also happy with the re-constitution of the National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX), which had been dissolved for sometime now. It reminded all polytechnic students to remain steadfast and resolute until their grievance was resolved.
