Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor, has allayed fears of insecurity in the country as tensions mount ahead of the polls in November.
Talking about general security in the country on Accra100.5 FM’s morning show Ghana Yensom with host Chief Jerry Forson on Friday February 19, Mr Kudalor said the police would soon be educating the public on personal security tips for personal protection.
“We will give you tips on personal security. We cannot be everywhere at every time. When you are home, you need to do certain things to protect yourself from attackers before the police arrive to assist you,” he said.
To ensure absolute peace before, during, and after the elections, he said the police’s plan to ban all party-affiliated vigilante groups was on course.
He disclosed that the police had a calendar to meet the youth, who formed these groups, and assured Ghanaians that political party vigilante groups would be a thing of the past by the end of March this year.
“We have spoken to the leaders of these groups. They have understood us and we hope by the date we have set on our calendar, vigilante groups will be a thing of the past,” he noted.
Mr Kudalor said these groups were not as prominent now as they were sometime past, and was, therefore, confident the police were on course to disband them.
“The police is doing its part and working hard, so, I assure Ghanaians we are up to the task of ensuring their safety and protection,” he added.
