Poll Results for Bawku to be recounted

Bolga, Dec. 8, GNA – Party candidates, their agents and electoral officials from Bawku Central constituency in the Upper East Region arrived in Bolgatanga Monday afternoon for a recount of contested poll results for that constituency. Amidst tight security, they arrived at the Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission, where the re-collation exercise is taking place behind closed doors. The Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Iddrisu Adam, said figures for the two leading candidates in the constituency, Mr Mahama Ayariga and Mr Adamu Dramani, were being contested by the candidates and their supporters, hence the need for a recount. “It was decided that they be brought down to Bolgatanga for the recount to avoid creating undue tension in Bawku,” Mr Adam explained. With the results of eight constituencies received so far, there are five left for a complete coverage of the Region’s 13 constituencies. Those whose results have not yet been declared by the Regional EC office are Builsa North, Builsa South, Chiana-Paga, Zebilla, and Bawku Central. 8 Dec. 08
