Kumasi, Sept. 1, GNA – The Reverend Kwabena Ofosu-Addo, Director in-charge of Mission and Evangelism of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has spoken against what he termed the “vindictiveness and blame-game” that has become associated with the country’s politics. This, he said, could be counter-productive and undermine efforts at consolidating the nation’s democracy and socio-economic development. Speaking at the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Northern Outreach Programme of the PCG in Kumasi, he said everything should be done to nip the trend in the bud.
The theme was “Let us rise up and build- Two decades of successes, challenges and the way forward” and was hosted by the Asante Presbytery. The programme was instituted by the General Assembly (GA) of the Presbyterian Church to carry out evangelism among people from the three Northern Regions and some deprived communities in Southern Ghana. Additionally, it is offering employable skills training for the targeted groups with a view to assisting them to become economically self-supporting.
The Rev. Ofosu-Addo encouraged politicians to focus on addressing problems and challenges facing the society and the creation of jobs and wealth to help the people to live decent lives. . The Church’s Programme, he noted, had achieved some successes over the years, saying it has helped to disprove the erroneous impression that all the people in the Northern parts were Muslims. It has also facilitated the tapping and nurturing of talents within the working areas of the Programme.
Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia, Chief of Bantama in Kumasi, lauded the Presbyterian Church for its commitment to the propagation of the Gospel to win souls for Christ and turn people away from evil deeds. He appealed to the Church to cooperate with other religious denominations, ministries and organizations to vigorously pursue pro-poor projects for the under-privileged. 1 Sept. 09
