Politicians urged not to incite needless tension and acrimony

Kumasi, March 7, GNA – Alhaji Sulemana Gado, a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to the leadership of the various political parties to do more to build bridges and avoid inciting needless tension and acrimony among supporters.

He said, “As Ghana hits the 54th milestone of nationhood, it is important for all of us to renew our resolve to stay united and pull together to grow the country’s democracy.”

Alhaji Gado said, he wondered why people should tear themselves apart simply because they did not share the same political opinion. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Monday, 79-year old Alhaji Gado, appealed to colleague politicians to be circumspect in their conducts and to send strong messages of tolerance to their followers. This, he said, demanded stepping back from the political rhetoric tha= t tended to inflame passion and created divisions. He asked all to accept to put the nation ahead of individual selfish ambition or sectional interest. Alhaji Gado said a lot needed to be learned from the advanced democracies to help to deepen Ghana democracy.
