Politicians urged not to destroy image of Ghana

Nankesido (C/R), Aug 20, GNA – A chief has said politicians should not use their quest for power to destroy Ghana’s image as a peaceful country.

Nana Baah VII, Chief of Nankesido, said “our hard won reputation as a peace loving country must not be sacrificed for quest for political power.”

Nana Baah, who is also the Ninfahene of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, was addressing a durbar at Nankesido to mark the 48th anniversary of his enstoolment.

The anniversary coincided with the celebration of their annual Yam Festival.

The chief suggested to the leadership of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Party to form joint education committees to educate their followers not to see their opponents as enemies and also to tolerate their views.

The committees could also be used to organise games and other activities for the followers of the two parties.

Mr Anthony Baison, Assistant Director in charge of Supervision at the Mfantseman Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, commended Nana Baah, a teacher by profession, for contributing to the improvement of education in the municipality.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Municipal Chief Executive, in a message recounted the support of the Nana Baah to the development of the assembly particularly in releasing plots of land for development projects including the offices of the assembly.

Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, Member of Parliament for the area and Minister of Information and National Orientation, appealed to chiefs to see politicians as partners in development and cooperate with them to improve the living standard of the people.

Katamanto Amonoo XI, Omanhene of Anomabo Traditional Area, called for cooperation between chiefs and the people to facilitate development of communities.
