WA, Ghana — Apart from an independent parliamentary candidate for Nadowli North in the Upper West Region, none of the political leaders invited to a gospel night to pray for peaceful elections turned up.
Dr. Daniel Debagah was the only contesting member who attended the show dubbed “Explosive Gospel Nite for Peaceful 2000 Election” held at the St. Andrews Catholic Cathedral.
The show, which was organised by various churches in the region, was aimed at easing tension among political leaders and to advise their electorate against acts of violence and indicipline on polling day.
It featured renowned gospel musical groups such as Getty and Friends from Accra, Assemblies of God Revival Singing Group and a mass choir made up of selected choristers from churches in the Wa township.
Present were priests and pastors from various churches of the region, chiefs, security agencies and Mr Bede Ziedeng, deputy Upper West Regional Minister who left the scene after staying for about 30 minutes.
In a short sermon, Elder Moses Ali of the Revival Assemblies of God Church called on all Christians all over the country to fast and pray incessantly for a peaceful general election on December 7.
He also called on political leaders to accept whoever wins the election.
