Politicians asked to tolerate divergent views

Mampong (Ash) Jan. 24, GNA – Expression of divergent views is an indispensable part of true democracy, the Most Reverend Joseph Osei Bonsu, Catholic Bishop of Konongo/Mampong Diocese has said. He has therefore urged political activists to accept opposing views as a means to foster national peace and unity.

Bishop Osei Bonsu expressed these views during a non-denominational thanksgiving church service at Mampong on Sunday, to thank God for granting Ghana peaceful and successful General Election, last December. The service, which was organised by the local branch of the Christian Council of Churches, attracted representatives of the various political parties and some traditional rulers who joined the congregation of the local Saint Paul Catholic Church, in waving white handkerchiefs to signify the success of Election 2004, amidst singing and dancing.

Bishop Bonsu said asked the political parties to transcend all parochial interests to promote peace and stability. Mr. Peter A. Sarkodie, Member of Parliament for Mampong, who was thankful to his constituents for giving him the mandate to represent them in Parliament assured them of his commitment to collaborate with the Sekyere West District Assembly to meet their social and economic aspirations.

He said the ruling New Patriotic Party would live up to the task of accelerating national development and asked the people to rally behind the Kufuor administration to make the vision possible.
