Politicians admonished against hot-headed language

Hohoe, May 15, GNA – Reverend Francis Cudjoe Agboada, Hohoe Presbytery Chairman of the Global Evangelical Church, has admonished politicians to be guided against the use of hot-headed language as we move towards the 2012 general elections.

“Let us be truthful, polite and embark on campaigns of issues and ideas than the use of provocative and intemperate languages, which are likely to disturb the relative peace in the nation.” Rev. Agboada gave the advice at the four-day 2011 Hohoe Presbytery Conference at Hohoe, under the theme; 93That None Should Perish.” The Hohoe Presbytery comprise of 13 pastoral districts with 54 congregations. He called on the Church to continue to intercede on behalf of Ghana for free, fair and violent-free campaign and general elections. Rev. Agboada demanded censorship of movies with immoral, profane and occultic scenes as well as the promotion of alcoholic beverages at prime times on radio and television. He said these scenes usually corrupted the minds of children especially during their character formation periods and called for urgent legislation to correct the anomaly. The Presbytery Chairman exhorted the faithful to pray unceasingly for peace, stability and growth of state and Church. Mr Simon Dewotor, a laity, entreated the government to consider re-introducing religious studies as a major in the school curricula, which, he said, would instil good moral values in the young ones for social cohesion. He called on stakeholders to rise-up to the challenge of 93being one’s keeper, rescue the perishing and care for the dying.” Mr Dewotor urged religious leadership to restore the Church to its dignity, infuse sanity and discipline in the wake of proliferation of churches.
