Political tolerance is central to democracy -Director

Manso-Datano (Ash), May 11, GNA – Mr Agyemang Gyasi, the acting Amansie West District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has stated that, political tolerance was central to democracy.

He said it was very important for Ghanaians to understand that ones political opponent was not an enemy and as such, should be tolerant of each other’s views.

Mr Gyasi was speaking at a durbar to mark the celebration of this year’s Constitutional Week organised by the NCCE at Manso-Datano in the Amansie West district of Ashanti at the weekend.

It was attended by over 200 people including chiefs, farmers, traders and school children and had as its theme: “National Integration Through Tolerance”.

Mr Gyasi said Ghanaians should be guided by the realisation that political tolerance was central to the success of democracy. Mr Stephen Obuor Karikari, Member of Parliament (MP) for Amansie West, called for a demonstration of civility and a high sense of maturity and responsibility at the December polls.

Mr Ransford Coffie, a research officer of the NCCE, asked the people to invest in the education of their children to enable them becomes useful citizens.
