The Savannah Acceleration Development Authority (SADA) zone’s Coalition of Civil Society Organisations has charged competing political parties in the December general elections to reaffirm their commitment to address poverty and inequality in the SADA zone.
Executive Secretary of the Coalition, Bismark Adongo Ayorogo, blamed government’s neglect of transformational projects for the poor development in the northern sector.
According to the Coalition of SADA Zone CSOs, government has not paid much attention to the new administration in charge of SADA-related developmental projects after series of scandals were slammed against the old administration.
The Coalition of SADA Zone Civil Society Organisation led by Bismark Adongo Ayorogo lamented that government’s attitude towards the restructured SADA is a serious threat to its sustainability and a breach of the development agenda.
The Coalition stressed that the SADA Act 805 of 2010, which is yet to have a legal instrument, enjoins government to resource SADA annually from budgetary allocations and also introduce levies on all non-petroleum imports to fund the Authority.
Bismark Adongo Ayorogo admitted that the past executives of SADA did not make the required consultation before embarking on projects. And that is the reason why most initiatives they implemented didn’t yield fruits, he stressed.
He, however, stated that the current executive body led by him has made several consultations with experts and indigenes in various sectors of the Savannah Ecological region and therefore urged political parties running for this year’s general election to give currency to SADA in their national agendas.
The Coalition again charged political parties to make SADA relevant in their manifestos with a practical demonstration of commitment and not just statements.
