Political parties told to promote peace in the country

Tamale, Jan 9, GNA- Mr Charles Bintim, Deputy Northern Regional Minister has urged political parties, especially the NPP and the NDC to co-exist to promote the needed peace necessary to sustain the country’s democratic development.

He said as the most prominent parties, the NPP and the NDC should comport themselves during their electioneering campaigns towards the general election by being circumspect in their utterances and avoiding rancour and acrimony.

Mr Bintim was speaking at a reception organised by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council to mark 11 years of the Fourth Republic and three years of “Positive Change” of the Kufuor administration in Tamale on Wednesday.

He said: “At the end of everything, the party that comes out as the winner should be accepted in good faith and in the best interest of the country, since we are all working as partners in development.”

Some prominent NPP personalities, chiefs, heads of the security agencies and some decentralised departments attended the reception. The Deputy Minister said the government would ensure a level playing field for all the political parties to carry out their electioneering campaigns in the up-coming Presidential and Parliamentary elections. He commended the security agencies for maintaining peace in Dagbon and appealed to the public to assist them with information on the activities of troublemakers and armed robbers.
