Political parties in Upper East adopts guidelines for Election 2004

Bolgatanga, Sept. 17, GNA – An official of Action Aid Ghana, an international non-governmental organization (NGO), Mrs Rita Akoto Coker has observed that political activists owed it a duty to the nation, to observe the rules of multi-party democracy to ensure the success of Election 2004. She said Action Aid Ghana, was supporting programmes aimed at promoting inter-party dialogue to ensure a peaceful national democratic process.

Mrs Coker was addressing a day’s workshop, organized by the NGO, in Bolgatanga, on the adoption of guidelines to promote political dialogue in the Upper East Region.

The workshop was jointly organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and attended by representatives from the ruling New Patriotic Party, the main opposition National Democratic Congress, the Peoples National Convention and the Convention Peoples Party. Mr Napoleon K. Agboado, Director of Public Education at the NCCE, advised politicians not to regard their opponents as enemies. He called for an inter-party games to promote a united political front in the Region.

The Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. H.S. Haruna said the Region was the first to adopt the guidelines and appealed to stakeholders to take keen interest in the implementation of the document.
