Political commentator commends MP and others for crisis-free new district

James Gunu, a political commentator on Wednesday attributed the peaceful processes that went into the creation of the Akatsi-North District to the diplomacy of Mr. Doe Adjaho, MP for Ave-Avenor.

He said Mr. Peter Nortsu-Kortoe, District Chief Executive, and chiefs of the area were also instrumental towards the achievement.

Mr. Gunu told the GNA that the consultative efforts of these officials helped to achieve consensus on the choice of the district capital and the determination of the geographical boundaries.

Mr. Gunu, who hails from the area, said the demarcation which chopped parts of the Avenor Traditional Areas into the new Akatsi North District did not create suspicions because of the consultations that took into account the aspirations and the realities of national development.

The Akatsi North District, with the capital at the Ave-Dakpa, was carved out of Akatsi which will now be known as the Akatsi South District.

Mr. Gunu also commended the Ave Development Union (AVEDU) for helping to secure offices for the Assembly and other preparatory works for its take-off.

He said he was optimistic that the Akatsi North District was not only a political and local government entity but would soon show its economic strength.

Mr. Gunu said the area had vast potentials for agri-business including farming, food processing and food trade.

He said the district’s close proximity to Togo and good road linkages to the busy Accra-Tema-Aflao Highway to the South and the Eastern Corridor road to the North should promote business with the rest of Ghana.**
