POLIO DAY LAUNCHED IN ACCRA

The 2nd National Immunization Day has been launched in Accra. The Deputy Minister of Health, Nana Paddy Acheampong, who did the launching said the control of infections diseases especially among children is a necessary condition for socio-economic development. He stressed that though the Ministry has a great responsibility of providing services to every citizen, it is also important for communities to contribute to such efforts. Nana Acheampong noted that inspite of the fact that the Ministry has interacted immunization activities into the routine maternal and Child Health services, regular services do not cover about 60 percent of the population at the community level. The Deputy Minister of Communications, Mr.. John Mahama, said since communication and public education permeate all sectors of the economy, his Ministry is making efforts to build up the capacity to be able to support all the other sector Ministries in terms of education.
