Policeman killed at station counter

Police Inspector Awisi Yakubu, 59, in-charge of Badu Police Station in the Wenchi District of the Brong Ahafo Region was allegedly killed by an unidentified person on December 30, 2013 whilst taking a complaint statement at the Police Station.

According to the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, and the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, the unidentified person was also gunned down by a Police Constable when he attempted to run away.

He said the assailant armed with a machete and a pinch bar went to the charge office to lodge a complaint about some people who had threatened his life.

ASP Tawiah said whilst Inspector Yakubu was taking down his statement, the assailant hit him with the pinch bar, he collapsed and later inflicted machete wounds on him.

He said the police constable who was returning from duty to the station saw the incident and rushed to the scene but the assailant took to his heels and was shot.

ASP Tawiah said the corpses had been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
