Police women urged to pull their weight

Kumasi, July 12, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Mr Patrick Eden Timbillah, has urged women in the Service to work hard and show a strong inclination to rub shoulders with their male counterparts. They should also help maintain high professional standards to raise the image of the police in the country. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Timbillah was opening a two-week training course for personnel of the service in Kumasi on Monday. It is being attended by 22 participants drawn from Ashanti, Greater Accra, Northern, Upper West and Brong-Ahafo regions. Of the number only three are females.

The course is part of the advance pre-Selection Assistants Team (SAT) training of trainers’ course for SAT examination. SAT examination is used for the picking of policemen for peace keeping missions.

DCOP Timbillah said the Police Service is gender sensitive and that it behooved the females to strive to get to key positions. He counseled the participants to apply themselves diligently to the course to achieve efficiency.

He thanked the German Government for supporting the programme and said more of such sponsorship was needed to broaden the knowledge of the personnel for optimal performance.

Police Chief Superintendent Owiredu Nkansah, Director of Internal Relations, said the mode of selection was based on the personnel’s desire to be examiners, qualification and experience. The participants would be taken through driving lessons and English Language assessment. 12 July 10
