Sergeant Abena Konadu has appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra for allegedly defrauding two persons of GH¢ 20,085.77 by false pretence.
Konadu convinced the complainants to part with the money in order to influence the late President John Evans Atta Mills and his wife, Naadu Mills to approve a solar light contract.
She pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties who are to be civil servants.
She is expected to reappear in two weeks.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abraham Annor said the accused is a police officer attached to the court unit in Accra while the complainants were Hiroshi Kato, Japanese and Johnson Yeboah, a Ghanaian.
In 2011, Konadu introduced herself to one Pastor Yaw Owusu, a witness in the case as an aide to the former First Lady, Naadu Mills and President Mills, who in turn introduce her to the complainants as such.
In February 2011, the accused demanded 960,000 Japanese Yen equivalent to GH¢ 20,085.77 and promised that she would use the money to influence the late President and his wife to provide them with the solar light contract but failed.
