Police woman commits suicide

A police officer named Peace Agbemefo, aged about 33 years has committed suicide in the Garu Tempani District of the Upper East Region.

She shot herself with a police gun through her throat. The unfortunate incident occured Monday afternoon.

The deceased officer was supposed to be on Duty at GN Bank in Garu on the said morning, but eventhough she booked for duty at the Police station, she failed to turn up at her post.

In the event the Bank Manager, Haruna Abdul Fataw called the District Police Commander ASP Alexander Tyeku requesting for police protection for the bank. That call sparked the search for Peace Agbemefo.

A young girl who is very close to the deceased police officer explained that she visited the latter’s house on the fateful day but found out that her door was locked. Thinking the police officer had gone to work, she went back to her house and brought a spare key to open the door.

She entered and saw Peace Agbemefo lying in a pool of blood. A knife was found on the floor and a tied rope fastened to the ceiling.

Her body has since been deposited at the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga pending further investigations and autopsy.
