Police unhappy with transfers from Flagstaff House

The decision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. David Asante-Appeatu, to withdraw the leadership of the police security detail at the Flagstaff House has sent shivers down the spines of the junior ranks. Their fear is that they too will be withdrawn after providing security for the President whilst he was in the opposition.

Some of the officers told The Chronicle that information was sent to the IGP to withdraw the police officers and send them back to the headquarters. The morale of the concerned police officers has dipped, due to the fact that they gallantly sacrificed, protected and guarded the President at the time he was an opposition leader and a flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party – a period when virtually everybody was shying away from providing security for Akufo-Addo.

The police officers, who pleaded anonymity, noted that they were expecting that their efforts will be recognised, and that they will be properly commended, rather than maligning them with instructions to the IGP to recall them.

When contacted, a source at the Flagstaff House denied any wrongdoing over the recall of the officers. To the source, the police officers should have spoken to the appropriate leaders, instead of going to the press with the information.

The source admitted that the police officers involved did the right thing, when they voluntarily decided to protect a political party presidential candidate during the electioneering campaign, but insist Flagstaff House had no hand in their recall.
