Police to ensure peace during the visit of Yajzi

Accra, Aug. 17, GNA – The Police Administration on Wednesday said it would ensure public order at all cost to enable people to go about their duties in peace during the intended visit to the country of Madam Gizelle Yajzi, the woman in midst of the controversy surrounding the purchase of a hotel by the son of President John Agyekum Kufuor.

A statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) David S. Eklu of the Police Public Relations, said Mr Patrick Kwateng Acheampong, Inspector General of Police (IGP), on Wednesday afternoon held discussions at the Police Headquarters with “Friends of the Truth”, a group that had asked for Police protection in respect of Madame Yajzi’s visit.

The statement said during the meeting the proposed programme for the visit was discussed and the Police agreed to give the necessary protection as required by law.

It said: “The IGP also gave the assurance that the Police will do all they could to keep the peace but warned that the Police will not allow any demonstration at the Airport, because of its strategic security nature.”

The IGP appealed to all Ghanaians to exercise restraint to ensure that the visit was peaceful.

Some groups had indicated their intention to demonstrate and counter demonstrate against Madam Yajzi’s visit.

The IGP attended the meeting with Senior Police Officers at the Police Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Commander. 17 Aug. 05
