Police taking measures for peaceful elections

Hohoe, April 26, GNA- Political parties have been urged to respond positively to opportunities to brainstorm on measures to make the December 2008 elections free, fair and peaceful.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Danso Adei-Akyeampong, Hohoe Divisional Commander made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency following the failure by some Political parties in the Hohoe Municipality to attend a meeting initiated by the Police in relation to the impending elections.

He said the abortive meeting was meant to set benchmarks for a peaceful and tolerant campaigning towards the elections. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were the only political parties to be represented while the Peoples National Convention, (PNC) the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) failed to attend.

The invitation letters, signed by Mr Daniel Ablordey, Hohoe District Commander of the Police were dispatched on April 21 to all the Political parties in the Municipality to be present for the deliberations.
