The Ghana Police Service has said it will employ electronic means in its recruitment process as it seeks to reduce the interference of middle men also known as ‘goro boys’.
The service has been hit by a number of recruitment scams in recent times, with one of them leading to some servicemen, including Director General of Human Resource and Administration COP Patrick Timbillah, being interdicted.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Police Headquarters Inspector Richmond Mensah, who spoke to Class News, said the switch to online application is to ensure a credible selection process.
“Those who are interested in joining the Ghana Police Service can do so by going through the [process] which will be placed in the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times Newspaper come Monday (May 9) and Wednesday (May 11),” he said.
“We are switching from the normal sale of forms to what we call online application, that has got the potential of actually reducing scam [and] people who are middlemen in the local language we call them the ‘goro boys’ who will try to tell you that: ‘I have been mandated by the Ghana Police Service to recruit people on behalf of the Police.’”
The service has asked Ghanaians to report suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest police station or the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters.
