Police Shake Up Not Based On Political Alliance

The Police Administration says recent postings of Police Commanders and other police officers are in line with police administrative criteria but not based on political party alliances.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, David S. Eklu of the Police Public Relations Directorate, is appealing to journalists as well as the public not to try to divide the police ranks by associating police officers with political parties.

It says ” it will be greatly appreciated if the police are correctly assessed on the basis of the professional competence required of every police officer and not on the basis of their media appearances.”

It cited the case of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Opare-Addo who was the second-in-command in the Ashanti Region and was now being elevated to assume full command of the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The statement says this is also a demonstration of the administration’s confidence in Mr. Opare-Addo who had shown a high level of fairness and firmness as required of a Police Commander.
